Tell us the mileage and history

When it was last serviced, and whether the CVT fluid has ever been changed. On a small car owners tend to buy the cheapest service going, so those answers decide whether the service you are booking is actually complete.

A minor service is AED 425 and a major service AED 900, which is tier 1, the compact SUV band. An oil change only is from AED 230 and spark plugs are AED 200. A CVT fluid change is AED 275, or AED 425 with a new filter. A radiator flush is AED 225, a cabin filter AED 75, an air filter AED 100, an A/C gas top-up AED 150, a wheel alignment AED 200 and a tyre rotation AED 50. A general check is AED 150.
Because on this car Nissan links the two directly. A Nissan campaign bulletin states that if all the additional services are not performed, the vehicle can experience drivability concerns which may result in a CVT issue. Read plainly, that means the items owners treat as optional extras are, in the manufacturer's own words, connected to whether the gearbox stays healthy. So a part-service is not a cheap service, it is an incomplete one, and the saving is borrowed against the most expensive part of the car.
The Kicks drives through a continuously variable transmission, and its fluid carries properties the gearbox depends on rather than just lubricating it. A change is AED 275, or AED 425 with a new filter. We treat it as part of the complete service rather than an upsell, because it is one of the items Nissan ties to the gearbox staying healthy. If your Kicks has covered real distance and the fluid has never been touched, mention the mileage when you book and we will tell you honestly whether it is due.
Mobil fully synthetic engine oil, an oil filter replacement, air and cabin filter cleaning, all fluids topped up, and a multi-point inspection that pays particular attention to the CVT fluid condition and the filters on this car. The car is usually back the same day with a 6 month service warranty, and in Dubai you can have the minor service done at your door at the same price as the workshop.
A minor service every 5,000 to 10,000 km or 6 months, whichever comes first, and in this city the time limit often matters more than the distance. A small car doing short trips in heavy traffic can take a year to reach 10,000 km while putting far more hours of hot running on its oil and fluids than the odometer suggests. A low-mileage Dubai Kicks is not automatically a lightly used one.
There are recall campaigns on record for newer Kicks, including a body control module inspection and reconfiguration campaign, a campaign where the Shift-to-Park warning may not display or sound if the ignition is switched off out of Park and the driver's door is opened, and a campaign about door strikers that may have been improperly welded and could break. These are US filings that apply only to specific VIN ranges, so they may not touch your car at all. Recall work itself is carried out by Nissan, so check your VIN with them. We do not perform recall campaigns.
Yes, provided the oil meets the right specification, the parts are genuine or quality-equivalent, the schedule is kept and the work is recorded. We use Mobil fully synthetic oil and give you an itemised record, which is what matters for the car's history and resale. Most of our Kicks customers move across once the car is outside its dealer warranty period.

A small crossover does not need less care, it needs the complete version

Most servicing advice for a car like the Nissan Kicks starts from its size. It is a small, affordable, front-wheel-drive crossover with a modest engine and a continuously variable transmission, so the instinct is to match a small car with the smallest, cheapest service on the menu. This page argues the opposite, and it does so on the Kicks specifically because Nissan itself gives you the reason.

The temptation with an inexpensive car is to treat servicing as a grudge purchase and shave it wherever you can. Skip the fluid this time. Clean the filter rather than change it. Take the headline oil-and-filter price and leave the rest for a year you hope never arrives. On many cars that habit costs you a little life at the margins. On the Kicks it reaches further than that, because the items people drop to save money are the same items Nissan links to the health of the gearbox.

So the honest framing for this car is not cheap versus expensive. It is complete versus incomplete. A complete service done on a sensible clock is what keeps a Kicks reliable and keeps it worth something when you sell it. An incomplete one, bought on price alone, quietly borrows against the single most expensive component the car has. The rest of this page is about what complete actually means here, and what each part of it costs.

Nissan’s own bulletin ties a complete service to the gearbox

Here is the fact that shapes everything else, and it is not our opinion. It is Nissan’s.

A Nissan campaign bulletin states that if all the additional services are not performed, the vehicle can experience drivability concerns which may result in a CVT issue. Sit with that sentence for a moment, because it is unusually direct for a manufacturer. It is not saying that skipping a service is generally unwise. It is saying that leaving the additional services undone is connected, in Nissan’s own words, to drivability problems that can reach the transmission.

The useful reading for an owner is this. On the Kicks, the items a budget service leaves out are not loose extras bolted onto a core job. They are part of the job. When the manufacturer links service completeness to whether the gearbox stays healthy, a service that drops half those items to hit a lower price is not a cheaper version of the same thing. It is a different, smaller thing wearing the same name.

That is why, when we quote a Kicks service, we tell you what a complete one includes and what each piece costs, rather than quoting the thinnest possible figure and letting you assume it covers everything. The complete service is the point. The price of the pieces is below so you can see exactly what you are getting and what you would be leaving behind if you cut it.

What the complete service actually includes

A minor service is AED 425, the routine one, due every 5,000 to 10,000 km or 6 months, whichever comes first. It covers Mobil fully synthetic oil, a new oil filter, cleaning of the air and cabin filters, all fluids topped up, and a multi-point inspection. On the Kicks that inspection specifically looks at the condition of the CVT fluid and the state of the filters, because those are where this car and this climate do their quiet damage. In Dubai you can have the minor service done at your door at the same price as the workshop.

A major service is AED 900, typically every third service, around 30,000 to 40,000 km or every two years. The difference is that it replaces rather than cleans. A new air filter, a new cabin filter, new spark plugs and new wiper blades go in alongside the oil, filter, fluids and inspection. Spark plugs on their own are AED 200 as a standalone job, which is part of why the major sits where it does rather than being a minor with a higher number on it.

If you cover distance quickly between full services, an oil change only is from AED 230, which keeps the oil fresh without a full visit. It is a genuine convenience rather than a substitute for the service, because the oil is only one of the things a complete service protects.

The CVT fluid, and the deeper cooling work, sit outside both the minor and the major because they run on longer clocks of their own. We will tell you which of them is actually due rather than bundling them in to pad the bill. That honesty cuts both ways: we will not quietly drop them to win on price either, because on this car they are the part Nissan tells you not to drop.

The CVT fluid is part of the whole, not an upsell

The item that gets left out most often on a budget service, and the one Nissan’s bulletin points at most directly, is the transmission fluid.

The Kicks drives through a continuously variable transmission, and the fluid in it does more than lubricate. It carries properties the gearbox relies on to work the way it should, which is why it is not interchangeable with ordinary automatic transmission fluid and why its condition is worth checking rather than assuming. A CVT fluid change is AED 275, or AED 425 with a new filter. Neither figure is large by the standards of car maintenance. What makes the fluid expensive is the version where it is never done at all, because that is the version Nissan links to drivability problems reaching the gearbox.

Almost nobody books this on a cheap car until something prompts them, which is exactly why we raise it on the Kicks rather than waiting to be asked. We are not here to sell you a fluid change you do not need. We are here to look at the fluid, tell you its condition, and let you decide with the manufacturer’s own position in front of you. If your car has covered real distance and the fluid has never been touched, mention the mileage when you book and the inspection will give you a straight answer.

What we will not do on this page is dress the fluid up as a cure for symptoms or a protection against a specific failure. That is not the argument. The argument is narrower and stronger: it is one of the items that makes a service complete, and complete is what Nissan ties to the gearbox staying well.

Dust, filters and the air you actually breathe

Two of the cheapest items on the list earn their place because of where the car lives rather than what it is.

Dubai air carries fine dust and sand most of the year, and a small crossover pulls all of it through two filters. The air filter at AED 100 feeds the engine, and when it clogs the engine works harder for less, which shows up as duller response and thirstier running long before anything warns you. The cabin filter at AED 75 cleans the air you breathe and feeds the air conditioning, and a blocked one is the usual reason a healthy AC system seems to push less cold air than it used to. Both are cleaned as part of a service and replaced at the major, and both matter more here than the low prices suggest, because the dust that loads them never really stops.

While the climate is the subject, an A/C gas top-up is AED 150 where the system still holds pressure, which is a service-time convenience rather than a repair. If the AC is weak for a reason a top-up will not fix, that belongs on the Kicks repair page, where the cooling and blower work is diagnosed and priced properly rather than guessed at here.

Tyres, alignment and the small habits that save a set

The Kicks is light and front-wheel drive, so the front tyres do the driving and the steering at the same time and wear faster than the rears as a matter of course. Add Dubai heat softening the rubber and road surfaces that punish a drifting geometry, and uneven wear becomes the normal outcome rather than bad luck.

Two cheap habits deal with most of it. A tyre rotation at AED 50 moves the wear around so a set lasts closer to its full life instead of the fronts scrubbing out while the rears still look new. A wheel alignment at AED 200 keeps the geometry true, because once the alignment drifts, even a light car on hot roads will shave the edge off a front tyre quickly and quietly. Both are worth doing on a schedule rather than after you have already lost a tyre to it, and on an affordable car the saving is real money rather than a rounding error.

Heat also raises running pressures, so we check and set them to the correct cold figure rather than whatever the gauge reads on a tyre that has been sitting in the sun. It sounds trivial. On a small car that spends its life fully loaded with people and shopping, it is not.

Cooling and the wider check

A small engine in stop-start traffic still has to shed its heat into 45ยฐC air with little airflow at crawling speed, so the coolant is worth more than a glance. A radiator flush and refill is AED 225, one of the cheaper sensible things you can do before summer, because coolant carries corrosion protection that wears out before the coolant stops looking like coolant. A general check is AED 150 if you want the car looked over without a full service, and it is a fair way to get an honest picture of where a used Kicks stands before you spend anything larger.

Anything the inspection flags is reported with a price, and if it turns out to be a repair rather than maintenance it is quoted separately and you decide. Nothing moves from the service list into a bigger bill without your say-so.

Recall campaigns on record

Because owners research this and ask, it is worth naming plainly rather than leaving to rumour, and worth being careful about.

There are recall campaigns on record for newer Kicks. They include a body control module inspection and reconfiguration campaign, a campaign where the Shift-to-Park warning may not display or sound if the ignition is switched off while out of Park and the driver’s door is opened, and a campaign concerning door strikers that may have been improperly welded and could break. These are US filings, and each applies only to a specific range of VINs, so there is a real chance none of them touches your particular car.

Two things follow from that. First, we cannot tell you from a model name whether your Kicks is affected, and we will not pretend to. The way to know is to check your VIN with Nissan. Second, recall remedies are carried out by Nissan under the campaign, not by us, so recall work sits outside our price list as a quote or a referral. We mention the campaigns so you are informed, not to imply your car has a fault or that we can close a recall for you.
