A minor service is AED 625 and a major service AED 1300. The E-Class prices in tier 3 alongside BMW and Audi, which reflects what the parts and fluids genuinely cost rather than a surcharge for the badge. A gearbox fluid change is from AED 550, or AED 825 with the filter, spark plugs are AED 300, and the full fault scan is included in the service.
Because on certain V6 E-Class engines the most expensive failure in the vehicle announces itself as a stored code before the driver notices much at all. The codes involved are crankshaft to camshaft correlation faults, and on these engines they can point to wear in the balance shaft drive. Caught early that is information. Left alone it progresses, and because the engine is an interference design the end state is a rebuild. So a scan at every service is genuinely preventive rather than administrative.
Less than you would expect, and this is the trap. Owners assume anything called a balance shaft problem would cause vibration or shaking. It generally does not. What people report instead is a check engine light, a loss of power that is most noticeable as weaker low-end pull, and worse fuel consumption. Those are easy to attribute to age. The stored code is the reliable signal, not the feel of the car.
No. It relates to V6 engines within a particular production window, so it is a question of which car you own rather than a verdict on the model. That is exactly why we ask for the year and engine when you book: so we look rather than assume, and so we can tell you plainly whether it applies to you.
Mobil fully synthetic engine oil to the correct specification, an oil filter replacement, air and cabin filter cleaning, all fluids topped up, a multi-point inspection and a full fault scan with the stored codes read out to you. The car is usually back the same day with a 6 month service warranty.
More than on a mainstream car. These engines are built around a particular grade and additive package, and the timing components depend on clean oil at the right pressure rather than merely adequate lubrication. We use Mobil fully synthetic to the correct specification on every service, minor or major. On a car with known timing-related wear points, this is not a place to economise.
Every 5,000 to 10,000 km or 6 months, whichever comes first, and we would use the shorter end here. Long oil intervals are defensible in temperate climates. In a city reaching 45ยฐC where the car also idles in traffic, the oil is working considerably harder than the published figure assumes.
Materially, and the absolute saving is larger on a tier-3 car than on a mainstream one because the baseline is higher. We use Mobil fully synthetic to the right specification, genuine or quality-equivalent parts, and give you an itemised record including the scan results, which is what matters for the car's history and resale.

On this car, the scan is the main event

Most service pages treat the diagnostic scan as a box to tick. On a V6 E-Class it is the single most valuable thing we do, and it is included rather than charged as an extra.

Here is why.

On certain V6 engines fitted to this model, the most expensive failure in the car announces itself as a stored fault code well before the driver notices much of anything.

The codes involved are crankshaft to camshaft correlation faults, and on these engines they can point at wear in the balance shaft drive. Mercedes also stores its own specific codes alongside the generic ones, which is useful because it narrows the cause considerably.

Caught early, that is information โ€” it tells you what you are dealing with while you still have choices. Left alone it progresses, and because the engine is an interference design, the end state is a rebuild rather than a repair.

So on this car, “the scan came back clean” is a genuinely meaningful sentence, and we will tell you what was stored rather than clearing it quietly.

The symptoms are not what you would expect

This is the part that catches owners out, and it is worth knowing before you dismiss anything.

Anything described as a balance shaft problem sounds like it should cause vibration or shaking. It generally does not.

What owners actually report is:

A check engine light, often the only clear signal.

A loss of power, most noticeable as weaker pull from low revs rather than a dramatic drop.

Worse fuel consumption.

Every one of those is easy to put down to the car getting older. None of them feels like an emergency. Which is precisely why the stored code is the reliable signal rather than the feel of the car, and why a scan beats a test drive here.

It also tends to progress over weeks and months rather than appearing suddenly, so the gap between first code and real damage is a window worth using.

Which engine, and which year

Not every E-Class is affected. It relates to V6 engines within a particular production window, which makes it a question of which car you own rather than a judgement on the model.

That is exactly why we ask for the year and engine when you book. A four-cylinder E200 and a V6 E350 need different things watched, and knowing which you have means we look rather than assume โ€” and that we can tell you plainly whether any of this applies to your car.

If it does not apply, you will hear that too. It is a short conversation and it is free.

Oil specification, and why it matters more here

On a mainstream saloon, oil that is approximately right is usually fine.

On these engines it is not. They are built around a particular grade and additive package, and the timing components depend on clean oil at the right pressure rather than merely adequate lubrication.

On a car with known timing-related wear points, that stops being a detail. We use Mobil fully synthetic to the correct Mercedes specification on every service, minor or major. It is not a premium upsell, it is the baseline the engine was designed around, and it is the last place on this car where saving money makes sense.

The interval deserves the same scepticism. Long oil intervals are defensible in temperate climates. In a city reaching 45ยฐC where the car also idles in traffic, the oil is working harder than any published figure assumes, so we use the shorter end of 5,000 to 10,000 km or 6 months.

What tier 3 covers

A minor service is AED 625: Mobil fully synthetic oil to specification, a new oil filter, cleaning of the air and cabin filters, all fluids topped up, a multi-point inspection and the full fault scan.

A major service is AED 1300 and replaces rather than cleans: air filter, cabin filter, spark plugs and wiper blades.

Two items worth planning rather than reacting to:

Gearbox fluid, from AED 550 or AED 825 with the filter. Often described as lifetime, worth doing anyway on a car with real mileage.

Coolant condition, checked every visit. Mercedes cooling systems of this era use a good deal of plastic, and years of UAE heat make plastic brittle rather than slowly weepy, so there is often less warning than a corroding metal part would give. A flush is AED 225.

The brakes deserve a mention

On some E-Class generations the braking system is electro-hydraulic rather than purely mechanical, which means it has its own control unit, its own stored faults and its own service considerations.

We check for brake system faults as part of the scan rather than only measuring pad thickness. If anything is stored there, it matters more than it would on a conventional system, and the diagnosis and the sensible repair order are covered on the E-Class repair page.

Pads and discs are still measured in millimetres and reported as numbers, with the wear sensors reset properly afterwards.

Anything the inspection finds comes with a price. If it is a repair rather than maintenance, it is quoted separately and you decide.
