Chevrolet is really three different brands

Few manufacturers span as much ground as this one. A Spark is a city hatchback. A Silverado is a full-size pickup. A Camaro is a performance coupe. They all wear the same badge and they have almost nothing in common mechanically.

That is why we do not publish one Chevrolet price. A sedan minor service is AED 525 and an SUV AED 650, and the Camaro prices a tier higher again because its parts cost more. The difference is not arbitrary: a Tahoe takes more oil, uses larger filters, has more underneath to inspect, and on many versions runs a second air conditioning circuit for the rear cabin.

The large models ask more of their air conditioning

This is the part of Chevrolet ownership that catches people out in Dubai. Cooling a Tahoe or a Traverse means cooling a cabin two or three times the volume of a Cruze, often through two evaporators and two blowers, in 45°C heat.

So on the larger models the AC is not a formality at service time. We check pressures, look at the condenser for the dust packing that stops it shedding heat, and on cars with rear air conditioning we confirm the back of the cabin is actually getting cold air rather than taking the front vents as proof.

Owners of three-row Chevrolets will recognise the symptom: perfectly cold in the front, barely cool in the third row. That is usually a rear circuit problem, not a whole-system failure, and it is worth diagnosing as its own thing.

The turbo sedans and their cooling systems

The Cruze and Malibu are the Chevrolets we see most, and the modern versions use small turbocharged engines. These are efficient and perfectly durable, but they run hot and they place real load on the cooling system.

A thermostat is AED 450 and a radiator flush AED 225. Both are modest. An engine that has been run hot is not, and sustained summer traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road is exactly the environment that finds a tired cooling system. So coolant condition gets looked at every service rather than every third.

Minor or major: which one is due

A minor service is the routine one, every 5,000 to 10,000 km or 6 months, covering Mobil fully synthetic oil, a new oil filter, cleaning of the air and cabin filters, all fluids topped up and a multi-point inspection.

A major service is typically every third service, around 30,000 to 40,000 km or every two years, replacing rather than cleaning: air filter, cabin filter, spark plugs and wiper blades.

In Dubai the shorter interval is generally the right one, for the usual two reasons: heat shortens oil life, and fine dust shortens filter life.

Four-wheel drive, and the item everyone forgets

If your Tahoe, Traverse, TrailBlazer or Silverado is four-wheel drive, there is a transfer case with its own oil, and a change is from AED 325. It is cheap, quick, and reliably the first thing to fall off a maintenance schedule once a car leaves the dealer network.

Gearbox fluid is the other quiet one, from AED 350 or AED 525 with a filter. On a heavy vehicle in this climate the transmission works hard, and fluid condition is the cheapest lever you have.

Anything the inspection flags is reported with a price, and if it is a repair rather than maintenance it is quoted separately.
