A minor service is AED 625 and a major service AED 1300. The 3 Series prices in tier 3 alongside Mercedes and Audi, which reflects what the parts and fluids genuinely cost rather than a surcharge for the badge. Gearbox fluid is from AED 550 or AED 825 with the filter, spark plugs are AED 300, a cabin filter AED 125 and the full fault scan is included in the service.
Because on the turbocharged petrol engines it is the earliest and cheapest warning this car gives you. The high-pressure fuel pump on those engines is a well-documented weak point, and its first symptom is almost always a longer crank before the engine fires. It degrades gradually rather than failing outright, so a crank that has gone from under a second to two or three seconds is telling you something long before a warning light appears. We note it at each service so you have a baseline to compare against.
The turbocharged petrol sixes in particular, which is why we ask which engine you have rather than treating every 3 Series the same. A 335i is a different proposition from a 320i. The naturally aspirated and later four-cylinder cars have their own considerations and we inspect accordingly, but the fuel pump question is most relevant to the turbocharged sixes.
How long it cranks on a cold start, and whether that has changed. You do not need a stopwatch, you need a memory of what normal used to be. The other things worth noting are a rough idle, hesitation high in the rev range, and any loss of power specifically when accelerating hard rather than generally. All of those point at fuel delivery, and we cover what they mean on the repair page.
Yes, more than on a mainstream car. These engines are designed around a particular grade and additive package, and the turbocharger where fitted depends on clean oil at the right pressure rather than merely adequate lubrication. We use Mobil fully synthetic to the correct BMW specification on every service, minor or major. It is not a premium upsell, it is the baseline.
Mobil fully synthetic oil to the correct specification, an oil filter replacement, air and cabin filter cleaning, all fluids topped up, a full fault scan with the codes read out to you, a multi-point inspection and the cold crank time noted. The car is usually back the same day with a 6 month service warranty.
Every 5,000 to 10,000 km or 6 months, whichever comes first, and we would use the shorter end here. Long oil intervals are defensible in temperate climates. In a city reaching 45ยฐC where the car also idles in traffic, the oil is working considerably harder than the published figure assumes, and a turbocharged engine asks more of it still.
Materially, and the saving in absolute terms is larger on a tier-3 car than on a mainstream one because the baseline is higher. We use Mobil fully synthetic to the right specification, genuine or quality-equivalent parts, and provide an itemised record, which is what matters for the car's history and resale.

Count the seconds before it starts

That sounds like an odd thing to lead a service page with. On a turbocharged 3 Series it is the cheapest and earliest warning the car gives you, and almost nobody tracks it.

The turbocharged petrol engines here use a high-pressure fuel pump to feed direct injection. On the earlier twin-turbo sixes in particular it is a well-documented weak point, common enough that BMW issued multiple recalls and revised the pump design during production.

What makes it worth knowing is how it fails: the internal piston and seals wear, the pump gradually loses its ability to hold full pressure, and the engine keeps running. What changes first is the crank โ€” the engine turns over noticeably longer before it fires.

A car whose cold start has gone from well under a second to two or three seconds is telling you something months before any warning light appears.

You do not need a stopwatch. You need a memory of what normal used to sound like, and the willingness to mention it when you book. We note the cold crank time at every service so there is a baseline on record rather than a vague impression.

Which engine you have decides whether any of this applies, so tell us when booking: a 320i and a 335i are different propositions, and we would rather say “not relevant to your car” than imply otherwise.

A gradual failure is an opportunity

Worth drawing out, because it changes what this page is for.

Plenty of expensive faults give no notice. This one does the opposite โ€” it degrades over months, through a sequence most owners can observe without tools:

Longer cranking before the engine catches, first on cold mornings.

A rough idle that was not there before.

Hesitation high in the rev range, while normal driving still feels fine.

Loss of power specifically under hard acceleration rather than a general flatness.

Each step is an opportunity to deal with this on your terms rather than at the roadside. Left entirely alone, a failing pump can eventually leave the car unable to start, and prolonged running in that state is reported to risk further damage.

So the honest pitch for a service visit on this car is not that we will find something hidden. It is that you are the best sensor the car has, and a service is where that observation gets acted on.

If it has been remapped, say so

A genuinely useful thing to disclose, and nobody will judge you for it.

These engines are among the most commonly tuned cars on the road here, because the standard turbocharged sixes respond well to it. A remap raises boost and fuel demand, which increases the load on exactly the fuel-delivery components discussed above.

It also matters for the rarer failures. The serious internal problems on these engines are uncommon on standard cars and much more associated with high boost or poor tuning โ€” which means the distinction between a stock car and a heavily modified one changes what we consider likely.

So tell us. It changes the probabilities we work from, not our willingness to work on the car.

A code that comes back is not a glitch

The full fault scan is included rather than charged as an extra, and on this car it has a specific job beyond general diligence.

Fuel-system faults store codes that are easy to clear and easy to dismiss. A code that appears, gets cleared, and returns three weeks later is not an electrical hiccup โ€” it is a developing fault being reset.

So we read the codes out to you rather than clearing them quietly. Over two or three visits that gives you a record of what keeps coming back, which is far more useful than being told the car passed.

What a scan will not do is hear a longer crank. Which is exactly why both happen on this car.

What the service includes

AED 625 minor: Mobil fully synthetic oil to the correct BMW specification, a new oil filter, cleaning of the air and cabin filters, all fluids topped up, the full fault scan, a multi-point inspection and the cold crank time noted.

Oil specification is not a detail where a turbocharger is fitted. A turbo spins fast enough and runs hot enough that oil quality stops being about longevity and becomes about survival. We use the correct grade every time, and we use the shorter end of the 5,000 to 10,000 km interval, because 45ยฐC ambient heat plus traffic asks more of the oil than any published figure assumes.

AED 1300 major, which replaces rather than cleans: air filter, cabin filter, spark plugs and wiper blades.

Two items priced separately because they are not every-visit jobs:

Gearbox fluid, from AED 550 or AED 825 with the filter, frequently described as lifetime and worth doing on a car with real mileage.

A cabin filter at AED 125, worth replacing rather than cleaning on a car living in city traffic, where weak airflow through the vents is regularly mistaken for an air conditioning fault.

Anything the inspection finds comes with a price. If it is a repair rather than maintenance, it is quoted separately and you decide.
