Tell us what you have seen, we establish how far it has gone, you approve before work starts.

01

Describe it before you drive

Coolant disappearing with no puddle? Oil looking milky? Shudder on gear changes? Message us first. On this vehicle one of those means do not drive it here.

Call or WhatsApp
02

We establish how far it has gone

Oil condition, coolant level, pressure test and the weep point. The question is not only what has failed but whether it has reached the oil yet.

Root cause
03

We repair it, you approve

Cooling, gearbox, driveline, AC: whatever the diagnosis points to is done only with your say-so, and we will tell you honestly if the vehicle is past economic repair.

Tier-2 SUV rates. A diagnosis including an oil condition check is AED 99, a radiator flush AED 225, a thermostat AED 450 and a radiator AED 1125. Gearbox fluid is from AED 400 or AED 600 with the filter, and a transfer case oil change from AED 375. An AC condenser is from AED 750, a compressor from AED 1150 and a blower motor AED 450. Sway bar end links are AED 250, rear shock absorbers from AED 725, front from AED 925 and a front lower control arm AED 1075. The water pump is quoted after inspection.
It means coolant has reached the engine oil, and you should stop driving immediately rather than driving to a workshop. On the V6 the water pump sits behind the front timing cover and is driven by the timing chain, so when its seals fail the coolant can go directly into the oil pan. The resulting sludge destroys bearings, scores cylinder walls and can hydrolock the engine. Every kilometre driven in that state makes the outcome worse. Message us and we will arrange recovery.
Not always, and that is why we look rather than assume. The honest answer depends on how long it has been circulating and how far the damage has gone. We check oil condition, the extent of contamination and whether there are signs of bearing distress before forming a view. What we will not do is quote you a pump, take your money, and hand back an engine that was already compromised. If the vehicle is past economic repair we will say so.
Catching it at the weep hole. Ford built a weep point behind the alternator on this engine, and coolant appearing there indicates the internal seal has failed before coolant reaches the oil. Found at that stage this is a water pump job. Found in the oil it is a different conversation entirely. The same failing part, two completely different bills, and the only variable is when somebody looked.
On a V6 Edge, yes, and more than on most cars. Unexplained coolant loss with nothing on the ground is the exact signature of an internal leak, and on this engine internal means into the oil. Come in before anything appears in the oil. That is the whole window you get, and it is why our service includes recording the coolant level so a slow loss shows up as a trend.
Start with the fluid. A shudder on gear changes is a recognised complaint on this vehicle, and degraded transmission fluid is a common and inexpensive cause: a change is from AED 400, or AED 600 with the filter. We would try that before discussing anything internal, because the alternative order means paying for a large repair you may not have needed. If the fluid does not resolve it, we will tell you what we think is going on rather than guessing.
It is worth keeping an eye on. Driveline components are one of the recognised areas on this vehicle, and the fluid in them degrades with heat and load rather than with distance, which is exactly what Dubai supplies. A transfer case oil change is from AED 375 and a driveline inspection AED 99. If you have noticed any vibration, binding in tight turns, or noise that changes with speed rather than engine revs, mention it.
Because a heavy crossover idling in 45ยฐC heat is the worst case for a cooling system: maximum heat generation with minimum airflow through the radiator. On a vehicle whose most serious failure is a cooling component, that daily cycle is what consumes the system's margin over several years. Nothing dramatic happens for a long time, and then the margin runs out.

Oil condition read first, coolant level and pressure checked, then an honest answer on which repair you are facing.

Diagnosis first. Quote before any repair. Recovery available if it should not be driven.

The same part, two completely different bills

On a V6 Edge there is one failure that matters far more than the rest, and the unusual thing about it is that the cost depends almost entirely on when it was found rather than on what broke.

The water pump on this engine sits behind the front timing cover, driven by the timing chain. When its seals fail, coolant has two possible destinations.

Caught early, it appears at a weep hole behind the alternator โ€” a point Ford deliberately designed in to give notice. At that stage this is a water pump job.

Caught late, the coolant has gone into the engine oil. The sludge that results destroys bearings, scores cylinder walls, and can hydrolock the engine. At that stage it is a different conversation entirely.

Same failing component. Two outcomes an order of magnitude apart. The only variable is when somebody looked.

If the oil is milky brown, stop driving

This is the most important instruction on the page, and it is the opposite of what people instinctively do.

Healthy engine oil is dark and translucent. Oil with coolant in it turns milky brown, and once you have seen it the appearance is unmistakable.

If yours looks like that: stop driving. Do not drive it to us.

Every kilometre run with contaminated oil circulating makes the outcome worse, and the journey to a workshop is exactly the sort of trip that converts a repairable engine into a scrapped one. Message us and we will arrange recovery.

That is not an upsell. Recovery is cheaper than the difference it protects.

Is it always an engine at that point?

No, and we will look rather than assume.

The honest answer depends on how long it has been circulating and how far the damage has progressed. We check oil condition, the extent of contamination, and whether there are signs of bearing distress before forming a view.

What we will not do is quote you a water pump, take the money, and hand back an engine that was already compromised. If the vehicle has gone past economic repair, you will hear that from us โ€” with the reasoning โ€” rather than discovering it two months later.

The window, and how to use it

The useful part of all this: there is a window, and it has a specific shape.

Unexplained coolant loss with no puddle is the first signal. On most cars that means a slow external leak to chase at some point. On a V6 Edge it means an internal leak, and internal here means toward the oil.

Coolant at the weep point behind the alternator is the second signal, and it is the one that still leaves you with a pump job.

Milky oil is the end of the window, not the start of the problem.

So the practical advice is simple: if you are topping up coolant and cannot find where it goes, come in now, while the answer is still a pump. Our service page explains why we record the coolant level at every visit, which is how a slow loss becomes visible as a trend rather than a surprise.

The gearbox shudder: fluid first

A different and far less alarming complaint, and one where the order of operations saves money.

A shudder during gear changes is a recognised complaint on this vehicle. Degraded transmission fluid is a common and inexpensive cause.

A fluid change is from AED 400, or AED 600 with the filter. We would try that before discussing anything internal, because the reverse order means potentially paying for a large repair you did not need.

If the fluid does not resolve it, we will tell you what we actually think is happening rather than reaching for the biggest available job. On a tier-2 vehicle that distinction matters, because the expensive answer starts to approach what the vehicle is worth.

All-wheel drive: worth watching

Driveline components are one of the recognised areas to keep an eye on on this vehicle, and the reason is the same one that runs through this whole page: fluid degrades with heat and load rather than with distance, and Dubai supplies both in quantity.

A transfer case oil change is from AED 375 and a driveline inspection AED 99.

Three symptoms worth mentioning when you book, because they point here rather than at the gearbox:

Vibration that comes and goes with speed.

Binding or wind-up in tight low-speed turns, such as manoeuvring in a car park.

Noise that changes with road speed rather than with engine revs.

Why Dubai traffic is the relevant factor

Worth connecting explicitly, because it explains why these vehicles reach their cooling problems here rather than elsewhere.

A heavy crossover idling in 45ยฐC heat is close to the worst case a cooling system can face: maximum heat generation with minimum airflow through the radiator. Then it parks in the sun, and the under-bonnet temperature barely drops before the next trip.

On a vehicle whose most serious failure is a cooling component, that daily cycle is precisely what consumes the system’s margin over several years. Nothing dramatic happens for a long time. Then the margin runs out.

A flush is AED 225 and a thermostat AED 450. Both are cheap ways to protect the thing that is not.

The ordinary items

Air conditioning, where a condenser is from AED 750 and a compressor from AED 1150. We measure pressures and find the leak before refilling anything. Cold air but not much of it is a blower motor at AED 450 or a clogged cabin filter, not refrigerant.

Suspension, where sway bar end links at AED 250 are the cheapest repair and the usual answer to a knock over speed bumps. Dampers are from AED 725 rear and AED 925 front, and a front lower control arm AED 1075 where a clunk under braking comes with vague steering.

Brakes, measured in millimetres and reported as numbers, because this is a heavy vehicle and it uses them.

The honest summary

An Edge is a straightforward vehicle to own with one genuine trap, and the trap is time-sensitive rather than expensive.

Watch the coolant. Know what milky oil looks like. If you see it, stop. Everything else on this page is ordinary tier-2 work at ordinary tier-2 prices.

If what you need is routine servicing rather than a repair, that is AED 650 minor and AED 1250 major, with the coolant level recorded and the weep point checked on a V6.
